When to buy an EV for the best deals, seasonal patterns, model year transitions, and incentive timing.
Like traditional car buying, EV pricing follows seasonal patterns influenced by manufacturer incentive cycles, model year transitions, and dealer inventory management. Timing your purchase can save thousands. December and January consistently offer the best EV deals. Dealers push to clear year end inventory for tax purposes, manufacturers release their strongest incentive packages, and the looming new model year creates pressure to move current stock. End of quarter months (March, June, September, December) also see increased dealer motivation as they work to hit quarterly sales targets and earn manufacturer bonuses. Model year changeovers create excellent buying opportunities for the outgoing year. When the 2027 model arrives at dealerships, the remaining 2026 inventory often receives significant discounts, sometimes $3,000 to $8,000 off MSRP. The outgoing model typically has identical or very similar features, with only minor updates differentiating it from the new version. For buyers who do not need the absolute latest, this timing strategy offers outstanding value.
